Belmont Abbey's Schmitz and Mount Olive's Tanner Named Conference Carolinas Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Belmont Abbey College’s Lucy Schmitz and University of Mount Olive's Elise Tanner have been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, the conference announced today.

A senior from Forestville, Wis., Schmitz picked up a first-place finish in the mile run at the Winston-Salem D2 Invitational over the weekend for the Crusaders. Her time of 5:21.48 beat the rest of the field by five seconds.

Tanner, a freshman, set a new Mount Olive school record in the pole vault at the Christopher Newport University's Captain's Invitational. She would finish fourth in the event with a height of 2.43m, which set the school record.
