No. 14 Limestone College Selected to Win 2016 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Championship

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Limestone College Saints garnered 68 points and five first-place votes to be named the early favorite to win the 2016 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Championship, the league announced today.

The Saints, who are ranked No. 14 in the nation according to Lacrosse Magazine, are looking to continue their strong hold on the Conference Carolinas regular season title and win their 10th straight. Limestone went a perfect 8-0 in league play in 2015 and turned in a 15-3 overall record.

Trailing the Saints by only two votes with 66 points and three first-place votes are the University of Mount Olive Trojans. The Trojans enter 2016 as the No. 13 team in country according to Lacrosse Magazine. The Trojans are the defending Conference Carolinas tournament champions after posting a 15-3 overall record and a 7-1 Conference Carolinas mark in 2015.

Finishing third in the preseason poll was Belmont Abbey College with 56 points. The Crusaders notched an 11-7 overall mark in 2015, which included a 5-3 Conference Carolinas record.

Tallying 53 points and coming in at fourth was Pfeiffer University, followed by Lees-McRae College and Converse College tied at fifth with 43 points.

The Falcons posted a 10-7 record in 2015, with a 6-2 league record. The Bobcats turned in a 7-9 overall record and 3-5 in Conference Carolinas action. The Valkyries went an even 9-9 in 2015 and 3-5 in conference.

Closing out the poll is Erskine College at seventh with 32 points and North Greenville University with 31 points in eighth.

The Flying Fleet notched a 1-15 overall record and 1-7 conference mark. The Crusaders went 2-10 in 2015 and 0-8 in conference play.

The 2016 Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse season begins on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 12 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College and Southern Wesleyan University are currently completing the NCAA Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
