No. 1 Limestone College Tabbed to Win 2016 Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Championship

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The No. 1 Limestone College Saints were picked to win the 2016 Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Championship, the league announced today. The Saints earned 50 points and five first-place votes from coaches.

Limestone, who is ranked No. 1 in the land by every media outlet, will be looking to win their 10th straight regular season title and third straight national championship in 2016. The Saints rolled to a 20-1 overall record in 2015 and posted a perfect 6-0 mark in Conference Carolinas action.

The University of Mount Olive registered 45 points and one first-place vote from the coaches to finish second in the poll. The Trojans enter the season ranked No. 11 by Lacrosse Magazine after going 11-5 overall and 4-2 in league play in 2015.

Belmont Abbey College placed third in the poll with 41 points. The Crusaders are coming off a 2015 season that saw them go 11-5 overall and 3-3 in conference action.

Pfeiffer University, who is preseason ranked No. 14 by Lacrosse Magazine, picked up 40 points to land fourth. North Greenville University was tabbed fifth after receiving 34 points.

The Falcons finished 2015 with a 10-5 record and 5-1 record in Conference Carolinas. The Crusaders posted a 1-14 overall record and 1-5 league record. 

Lees-McRae, who went 2-14 overall and 0-6 in conference last season, closes out the poll at sixth with 30 points.

The 2016 Conference Carolinas men's lacrosse season begins on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 12 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College and Southern Wesleyan University are currently completing the NCAA Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
