Three Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Players Named to Academic All-District Team

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Three Conference Carolinas men’s soccer players were recognized as 2016 Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Team selections by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday (Oct. 27) afternoon.

King University’s Luis Calderon and the Limestone College duo of Gui Machado and Nestor Aguilar were named to the NCAA Division II All-District Men’s Soccer Team District 3. The team is comprised of 12 student-athletes from the three conferences that make up the Southeast region: Conference Carolinas, Peach Belt Conference and South Atlantic Conference.

Calderon sports a 3.63 GPA as a psychology and mathematics double major. This is his first selection to the All-District Team.

Calderon currently has four goals and four assists for 12 points on the season for King.

Machado, who was named an Academic All-America a year ago, earned a mention on the Academic All-District Team for the second consecutive season with a 3.83 overall grade point average. The 2015 Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year is triple majoring in Business Administration/Marketing, Business Administration/Management, and Sport Management.

Machado has tallied 32 points on the season with 15 goals and two assists.

Aguilar was named Academic All-District for the first time in his career after posting a 3.91 overall GPA during his time with the Blue and Gold. The Physical Education major has twice earned recognition on the Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll.

Aguilar has seven points on three assists and two goals.

As first-team Academic All-District honorees, the trio has advanced to the Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America selections will be named.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 12 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College is are currently completing the NCAA Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
