Two Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Players Named to Academic All-America Team

AUSTIN, TEXAS – Two Conference Carolinas men’s soccer players were recognized as 2016 Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Team selections by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Monday (Nov. 21) afternoon.

The Limestone College duo of Gui Machado and Nestor Aguilar were named to the NCAA Division II Academic All-America Men’s Soccer First Team. 

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2016-17 Division II Academic All-America® teams program

Machado, who was named second team Academic All-America a year ago, earned a first team honors in 2016 with a 3.83 overall grade point average. The 2015 Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year is triple majoring in Business Administration/Marketing, Business Administration/Management, and Sport Management.

Machado finished the season with tallied 38 points on 18 goals and two assists.

Aguilar was named Academic All-America for the first time in his career after posting a 3.91 overall GPA during his time with the Blue and Gold. The Physical Education major has twice earned recognition on the Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll.

Aguilar wrapped up 2016 with seven points on three assists and two goals.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 12 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College is are currently completing the NCAA Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
