No. 1 Seed Pfeiffer Wins 2016 Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Championship

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Pfeiffer University nabbed its third straight Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Championship on Saturday (Nov. 5) evening after beating Limestone College, 5-1. The No. 9 nationally ranked Falcons move to 18-2-0 overall, while the No. 25 Saints fall to 15-3 on the season.

The win notches the Falcons their second straight season sweep of the regular season and tournament titles, while securing the team's third straight tournament title.

Pfeiffer would take a 2-0 lead into the half after Regis netted two goals in the first half in the 21st and 42nd minutes of play.

Limestone would get on the board in the 54th minute on a PK by Gui Machado, which would cut the lead to 2-1. However, Santi Moar would score in the 59th minute of play, with Regis adding his third goal of the match in the 61st minute to make the score 4-1. The Falcons would tack on another goal in the 73rd minute by Mateo Garces Yepes to make the final tally 5-1 in favor of Pfeiffer.

Pfeiffer and Limestone will find out their 2016 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship draw on Monday (Nov. 7) night at 6:30 p.m. on the NCAA Selection Show.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 12 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College is currently completing the NCAA Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
