Barton's Kiptoo and Whitley Named Conference Carolinas Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C.Barton College duo Sharon Kiptoo and Desiree Whitley have been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for meets held Nov. 28 - Dec. 4, the conference announced today.

Kiptoo, a junior from Eldoret, Kenya, broke the Barton indoor record in the 3000 meter run during the season-opening JDL Collegiate Kick-Off Classic. She would place fifth overall and first among Division II participants with a time of 10:41.79, which surpassed the previous Barton record of 11:11.03.

A freshman from Hampton, Va., Whitley made a splash in her college debut at the JDL Collegiate Kick-Off Class, as she narrowly missed breaking the Barton school record in the shot put. Whitley would register a toss of 10.69 meters to place 19th overall, finishing two-tenths of a meter short of a school record.
