Barton's Webster and Erskine's Bowers Named Conference Carolinas Baseball Players of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Barton College's Andrew Webster was tabbed the Conference Carolinas Baseball Player of the Week, while Erskine College's Zack Bowers was named the Conference Carolinas Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played the week of Feb. 22-28, the conference announced today.
A junior from Pittsboro, N.C., Webster led Barton to a 3-1 record during the week after hitting .538 with 9 hits (5 extra-base hits), including two doubles, two home runs and a triple for a 1.250 slugging percentage and a .632 on-base percentage. He scored six total runs and drove in 15 RBI. Webster's best performance came in a 19-4 win over King in which he hit for the cycle, finishing 5-for-5, including a grand slam, with 9 RBI and 3 runs scored.
Bowers, a sophomore from Lugoff, S.C., turned in a dominating performance on the mound to help Erskine sweep Limestone. He threw his first career complete game shutout, striking out a career-high 12 Saints along the way with no walks. Bowers scattered seven hits over nine innings, allowing just one extra base hit and just three runners to reach second base.
