Limestone's Swearingen and Mount Olive's Johnston Named Conference Carolinas Softball Players of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Limestone College's Emma Swearingen was named the Conference Carolinas Softball Player of the Week, while Madison Johnston of the University of Mount Olive was tabbed the Conference Carolinas Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played during the week of Feb. 22-28, the conference announced today.
A sophomore from Simpsonville, S.C., Swearingen batted .714 in a two-game sweep of Carson-Newman with three extra base hits and three RBI. In a 4-3 win in game one she would go 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI, while posting a 3-for-4 performance with a double and two RBI in a 12-4 game two win.
Johnston, a senior from Wilmington, N.C., posted a 1-1 record with a save to lead the Trojans to a 2-1 record in her three appearances last week. She tossed 11.1 innings, scattered 11 hits and tallied six strikeouts, while allowing two runs, both earned, for a 1.24 ERA. Johnston's most dominating performance came in a complete game shutout of USC Aiken. She would scatter five hits and strikeout four in the 1-0 win over the Pacers.
