Barton's Kelly and Limestone's Smith Named Conference Carolinas Softball Players of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Barton College's Megan Kelly was selected as the Conference Carolinas Softball Player of the Week, while Limestone College's Courtney Smith was tabbed the Conference Carolinas Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played during the week of Mar. 21-27, the conference announced today.
A junior from Plymouth, N.C., Kelly led the Bulldogs to a 3-1 week after batting .571 with eight hits, including three triples, two doubles and a home run, and seven RBI. Her best performance would come in a 12-5 win over Virginia St., going 4-for-4 with two triples, a homer and five RBI.
Smith, a sophomore from Bluffton, S.C., paced the Saints to a 3-0 record in the games she appeared, notching two wins and a save. She would toss 13.1 innings, scattering five hits and allowing three runs (2 earned) for a 1.05 ERA with nine Ks. Smith's top performance would be a one-hit, five-strikeout outing in a 2-1 win over Kentucky Christian University.
