2015-16 Conference Carolinas Women's Golf All-Conference and Major Awards Announced

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Erskine College's Krysta Schaus headlines the 2015-16 Conference Carolinas women's golf awards as she was voted the 2015-16 Conference Carolinas Women's Golfer of the Year. Allison Cooper of Limestone College was honored as the Freshman of the Year. University of Mount Olive mentor Chip Spiron rounded out the major awards, being named the Conference Carolinas Women's Golf Coach of the Year, the conference announced tonight.

Schaus, a senior from Federicton, New Brunswick, Canada, became the first Erskine women's golfer to be named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Golfer of the Year. She led the Flying Fleet with two tournament wins after posting a 76.18 stroke average this season. 

A Harrisburg, Pa. native, Cooper was named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Golf Freshman of the Year after posting a scoring average of 79.24 during her rookie campaign. Cooper compiled two top-five finishes during the 2015-16 season – a fourth-place finish at the Smokey Mountain Intercollegiate and a third-place finish at the Wingate Challenge.

University of Mount Olive head coach Chip Spiron was crowned the Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year after leading the Trojans to two team tournament wins this season, the Hilton Head Invitational and the Barton Intercollegiate. Mount Olive placed inside the top-five in seven-of-10 tournaments this season. Under Spriron's tutelage, Mount Olive broke several records this season, including the team 18-hole, 36-hole, and 54-hole card records.

Schaus was joined on the first team by Limestone College duo Hannah Luckett and Taylor McInnis. Rounding out the first team was University of Mount Olive's Julie Loennechen and King University's Nicola Robertson.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athleticconference made up of 12 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount OliveNorth Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College and Southern Wesleyan University are currently completing the NCAA DII membership process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
