2016 Conference Carolinas Softball All-Conference and Major Awards Announced

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Limestone College outfielder Caroline Hill was tabbed the 2016 Conference Carolinas Softball Player of the Year, while teammate Josie Weber was named the Pitcher of the Year. Vada Blue Sherrill of Pfeiffer University was voted the Conference's Freshman of the Year and Limestone mentor Amy Yates won the Coach of the Year, the Conference announced today.

Hill, a junior from Inman, S.C., picked up Conference Carolinas Player of the year honors in her first year in the league. A transfer from Spartanburg Methodist College, Hill made an immediate impact for the Saints this season providing multiple game-winning runs, including the regular season title clinching home run in a victory over Lees-McRae. Hill racked up a .429 batting average in conference play with 30 hits on 70 visits to the plate. Her power numbers are some of the best in the conference, tallying four home runs, two triples and two doubles over the course of the season.  Her slugging percentage of .714 ranks third highest in the conference while her 17 RBI ties for fifth in the league.

A sophomore out of Stanley, N.C., Weber earned the nod as Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Year after finishing the season with a 1.18 ERA in conference play. Over 65.1 innings of work through the season in league play, Weber allowed only 11 earned runs on her way to a 9-1 record, including eight complete games. She was able to retire 51 batters through her own work while allowing only 40 hits on 225 at-bats. Weber was able to amass a 16-4 record overall this year, while holding her opponents to a eye-popping .178 batting average in conference.

Hailing from Hiddenite, N.C., Sherrill had quite the rookie season, as she is one of just three players in the nation to record at least 50 hits, 50 runs and 45 stolen bases. She would finish the season with a .354 batting average to go along with seven home runs and 34 RBI. Sherrill also broke the Pfeiffer single season records for stolen bases, runs scored and walks, while posting 14 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI games.

Amy Yates picks up her second conference coach of the year honor after leading the Saints to a 17-4 Conference Carolinas mark. She earned her first nod during the 2014 season which kicked off a streak of three straight regular season titles, including the 2016 season. This season, Yates led her team to their best regular season record since she took the helm of 31-14, and the best record since Limestone's historic 2010 season.
