2016 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse All-Conference and Major Awards Announced
HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive attack Claire Wigler was voted the 2016 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year, while Belmont Abbey College's Kassie Easter garnered Defensive Player of the Year. Ally Unkenholz of Pfeiffer University was named the Conference's Freshman of the Year and Limestone's Scott Tucker was tabbed Coach of the Year, the Conference announced today.
Wigler, a senior from Syracuse, N.Y., captured the Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year after amassing 90 points on 52 goals, 38 assists. Her 52 goals ranked second in the conference, and 22nd in the nation, while her 90 points were a Conference-best and fourth in the nation.
A junior defender from Parker, Colo., Easter becomes Belmont Abbey's first Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Year after starting all 17 games this season for the Crusaders and recording a program-high 43 caused turnovers, 63 ground balls and 13 draw controls. She even got in on the offensive end and notched four points on two goals and two assists.
Unkenholz, an attack from Ellicott City, Md., notched Pfeiffer's first-ever Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year honors after doing most of her damage in Conference Carolinas games. 17 of her 22 points on the year came in Conference contests, while 11 of her 15 goals were against league foes. The rookie recorded two hat-tricks on the year and added a career-high five ground balls at Converse.
Scott Tucker wraps up his 14th season at Limestone with his 13th consecutive regular season title in Conference Carolinas play. His teams have won an unprecedented 54-straight games in league action and the 2016 season has been no different. The Saints breezed through the conference schedule with a 13.5-goal margin of victory on average. A now 10-time winner of this honor, Tucker has coached 82 All-Conference Carolinas selections including 60 First-Teamers. The winningest active coach in NCAA Division II women's lacrosse, his all-time record with the Blue & Gold now sits at 225-49 (.821).

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 12 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College and Southern Wesleyan University are currently completing the NCAA DII membership process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
