Mount Olive's Zimmerman Tabbed NCBWA Southeast Pitcher Hitter of the Week

PEMBROKE, N.C. – University of Mount Olive's Bruce Zimmerman has been named the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

A junior from Woodstock, Md., Zimmerman led Mount Olive to a berth in the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship after capturing the 2016 Conference Carolinas Baseball Championship. He went 2-0 with a 2.40 ERA in two appearances, including an eight-inning gem in the Conference Carolinas Baseball Championship title game. Zimmerman would earn most valuable player honors after striking out 16 in 15 innings of work with no walks. He struck out 10, allowed 10 hits and two earned runs over seven innings from the hill as the Trojans upset nationally-ranked Belmont Abbey, 7-2, in their tournament opener. He would strike out six and allow five runs (two earned) on 10 hits in eight innings of work in the championship win over Pfeiffer.


Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 12 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-Mcrae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College and Southern Wesleyan University are currently completing the NCAA Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
