Limestone's Messenger Named Conference Carolinas Male Athlete of the Year
HIGH POINT, N.C. - Limestone College's men's lacrosse player Mike Messenger has been named the Conference Carolinas Male Athlete of the Year for 2015-16, the Conference announced today. The award marks the second straight year a Saints' lacrosse player has received the award.
Messenger, a midfielder from Surrey, British Columbia, ended his stellar collegiate career with a plethora of individual awards and led the Saints to a third consecutive national championship game appearance. He registered 95 (60 G, 35 A) points on the season, despite missing the team's first two games. Messenger ranked first in Conference Carolinas in goals, while ranking second in points and assists. His 60 goals were the most by a Saint since the 2005 season.
Nationally, Messenger ranked fourth in NCAA Division II in total goals, while finishing 12th with three goals per game. He would notch five games with at least five goals and scored a career-high eight markers in a 25-7 win over No. 4 Tampa. His 4.75 points per game ranked ninth nationally, with him registering two 10-point games during his senior campaign.
