Mount Olive's Simmons Named Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Player of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive guard Daria Simmons has been named the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 9-15, the Conference announced today.
A senior from Lanham, Md., Simmons led the Trojans to a pair of Conference Carolinas wins last week after averaging 28.5 points, seven rebounds and two steals per game.
In an 83-68 win over Lees-McRae, Simmons scored 40 points on 12-for-19 shooting from the field and 14-for-15 from the charity stripe to go along with eight boards and four steals. The scoring performance ranks third in UMO single-game history. She followed the performance up with 17 points and six rebounds in a 79-62 win over Emmanuel.
Simmons is averaging 16.3 points and 5.3 rebounds on the season. She ranks fifth in Conference Carolinas with her 16.3 points per game.
