Mount Olive's Simmons Named Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Player of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C.University of Mount Olive guard Daria Simmons has been named the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 9-15, the Conference announced today.

A senior from Lanham, Md., Simmons led the Trojans to a pair of Conference Carolinas wins last week after averaging 28.5 points, seven rebounds and two steals per game.

In an 83-68 win over Lees-McRae, Simmons scored 40 points on 12-for-19 shooting from the field and 14-for-15 from the charity stripe to go along with eight boards and four steals. The scoring performance ranks third in UMO single-game history. She followed the performance up with 17 points and six rebounds in a 79-62 win over Emmanuel.

Simmons is averaging 16.3 points and 5.3 rebounds on the season. She ranks fifth in Conference Carolinas with her 16.3 points per game.
