King's Ballowe and Belmont Abbey's Smallwood Named Conference Carolinas Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The King University's James Russell Ballowe and Belmont Abbey College's Julian Smallwood have been named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for meets held Jan. 9-15, the conference announced today.

A junior from Roseland, Va., Ballowe opened the season with a pair of personal records to lead King at the ETSU Inviational hosted by East Tennessee State. He posted a pair of top-15 finishes, with his best performance being a fifth-place finish in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:36.37. Ballowe would finish 15th with a time of 9:04.77 in the 3000 meter run.

Smallwood, a freshman from Buffalo, N.Y., represented Belmont Abbey well at the Art & Maillet Open hosted by UNC Chapel Hill, finishing second in the shot put. Smallwood would break his own school record by registering a throw of 14.62 meters.
