Belmont Abbey's Thierfelder and Barton's Morris Named Conference Carolinas Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Belmont Abbey College's Liz Thierfelder and Barton College's Jamina Morris have been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for meets held Jan. 9-15, the conference announced today.
A senior from Gastonia, N.C., Thierfelder had an impressive performance at the Art & Maillet Open hosted by UNC Chapel Hill. She would place second in the 400 meter run with a time of 58.8 seconds, finishing behind an unattached runner.
Morris, a freshman from Edison, N.J., had quite the day at the Art & Maillet Open hosted by UNC Chapel Hill, notching four top-15 finishes. Her top performance came in the triple jump, as she won the event with a jump of 11.42 meters. Morris would continue her dominance in the long jump with a distance of 5.25 meters, which was good enough for eighth-place. Her last two top-15 finishes would come on the track, as she led Barton's 4x400 relay team to a third-place finish and then placed 14th individually in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.94 seconds.
