Limestone College Selected to Win 2017 Conference Carolinas Women's Golf Championship

HIGH POINT, N.C.Limestone College was named the front-runners to win the 2017 Conference Carolinas Women's Golf Championship, the league announced today. The Saints collected 93 points and eight first-place votes from conference coaches.

The Saints enter the championship season fresh off the momentum of three straight Conference Carolinas Women's Golf Championship titles and the program’s first NCAA Division II Super Region 2 appearance a year ago.

King University was picked to finish second in 2017 with 86 points and one first-place vote. The Tornado posted a fourth-place finish at the 2016 Conference Carolinas Women's Golf Championship.

University of Mount Olive was tabbed third in the preseason poll after collecting 78 points and two first-place votes. The Trojans managed a fifth-place finish in last year's women's golf championship.

Converse College earned 76 points for fourth place, while Erskine College garnered 70 points to place fifth. Belmont Abbey College and Barton College were tabbed sixth and seventh after tallying 51 and 40 points, respectively.

The Valkyries nabbed a third-place finish in the Conference Carolinas Women's Golf Championship. The Flying Fleet, Crusaders of Belmont Abbey and Bulldogs finished sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, in last year's women's golf championship.

Pfeiffer University received 35 points for eighth in the preseason poll, closely followed by Southern Wesleyan University with 34 points in ninth. Rounding out the poll in 10th is North Greenville University with 32 points and Chowan University in 11th with 10 points.

The Falcons posted a runner-up performance at the Conference Carolinas Women's Golf Championship in 2016. The Warriors enter their first season of postseason eligibility in 2017, while the Crusaders of North Greenville finished ninth in last year's women's golf championship. The Hawks enter their first season as associate members of Conference Carolinas in 2017.

The 2017 Conference Carolinas women's golf season begins on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 12 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College is currently completing the NCAA Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
