2017 Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer All-Conference and Major Awards Announced
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Chowan University forward Carolina Lucci was voted both the 2017 Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Offensive Player and Freshman of the Year. Lees-McRae College goalie Alexis Feely was honored as the Conference's Defensive Player of the Year. In addition, North Greenville University coach Andy Robinson was tabbed the Coach of the Year, the Conference announced today.
Lucci, a freshman from Monaca, Pa., becomes the first player in Chowan history to be named Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year and Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year. Lucci's dominance on the pitch led her to a Division II program record 19 goals, which is fourth best among Division II and the top freshman scorer in Division II. In addition to goals, Lucci also led Conference Carolinas in points (42) and game-winning goals (10) while also posting four assists, which ranked 11th in the league.
Feely, a junior from Raleigh, N.C., has been an integral part of Lees-McRae's success this season. She led Conference Carolinas with 133 saves, posted the fourth-best save percentage (.842) and ranked seventh with a 1.37 goals-against average. Feely also made 10 or more saves in eight contests to go along with three shutouts this season.
Coach Robinson wrapped up his fourth season at NGU, leading the team to an 8-6-4 overall mark and its best Conference Carolinas record in program history at 6-4-1. The Crusaders finished fourth in the Conference standings, which allowed them to host the first Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Championship match ever in Tigerville, S.C. Robinson is only the second Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year recipient from North Greenville University.
Lucci was joined at forward on the first team by Alex Mathis and Millie Shaw of Limestone College and Morgan Patton of Belmont Abbey College. Nicole Ferren and Alex Butorovich of Belmont Abbey joined Holly Rawcliffe of Limestone in the middle as first team midfielders.
