Mount Olive's Poole Named Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C.University of Mount Olive right side hitter Robert Poole has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's Volleyball National Player of the Week, as selected by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

Poole, a junior from Enfield, England, averaged 5.57 kills per set and hit .391 to go with 12 digs to keep Mount Olive atop the Conference Carolinas standings after posting a 2-0 record last week.

Against North Greenville, Poole put away 20 kills and hit .424 with seven digs, three blocks and two service aces to lead Mount Olive to a 3-1 victory. In a sweep of Limestone, Poole hit .361 and notched 19 kills with five digs.

Poole is averaging 3.83 kills per set and hitting .267 on the season. He ranks first in the league in kills (134), kills per set (3.83), points (157.0) and points per set (4.5), while ranking second in service aces (17) and third in service aces per set (.49).

The award is the third for a Trojan in the 13-year history of the program and the first since Jack Tutty earned the honor during the 2012 season. The first ever Trojan to win the award was Noel Garcia who garnered the award in 2008.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 12 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College is currently completing the NCAA Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
