Pfeiffer's Pennell and Lees-McRae's Cunningham Named Conference Carolinas Softball Players of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Pfeiffer University's Makenzie Pennell was tabbed the Conference Carolinas Softball Player of the Week, while Lees-McRae College's Kara Cunningham was named the Conference Carolinas Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 6-12, the Conference announced today.
A freshman from Taylorsville, N.C., Pennell had a stellar weekend to kickoff her collegiate career. She posted nine hits for a .600 average with two doubles and two homers. Pennell's week was highlighted in a win over Queens, as the freshman cranked a two-run walkoff homer to propel the Falcons to a 5-3 win over the Royals.
Cunningham, a sophomore Indian Trail, N.C., tossed 18.1 innings of work for the Bobcats and earned a 2-1 record with nine strikeouts and a .38 ERA. She also collected seven hits with a double and four RBI. Cunningham's best outing would be in a 2-1 win over Concord, as she scattered five hits and collected six Ks in a complete game performance.
