Mount Olive Claims Conference Carolinas Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship; Individual Awards and All-Conference Announced
HIGH POINT, N.C. – The 2016-17 Conference Carolinas Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship was held on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. University of Mount Olive captured the title after posting a team score of 205 points.
Limestone College's Marquett Simmons Jr. was named the Track Athlete of the Year after notching 20 points on a pair of first-place finishes in the 60m and 200m dashes.
Barton College's Larry Russell Jr. earned Field Athlete of the Year. Russell Jr. registered 30 points at the championship meet, taking first in the high jump and long jump, while finishing third and fifth in the triple jump and 60m hurdles, respectively.
Mount Olive's Tedric Shannon took home Freshman of the Year after collecting 10 points with his 400m win.
Matt van Lierop of Mount Olive garnered Coach of the Year after leading the Trojans to the Conference Carolinas Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 12 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College is currently completing the NCAA DII Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
