Mount Olive Captures Conference Carolinas Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship; Individual Awards and All-Conference Announced

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The 2016-17 Conference Carolinas Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship was held on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. University of Mount Olive would notch its fourth straight indoor title with a team score of 167 points.

In addition to the team title, Mount Olive's Leah Hanle would be named the 2016-17 Track Athlete and Freshman of the Year. Hanle totaled 28 points at the indoor championship after winning both the 5000m and mile run, while finishing runner-up in the 3000m run.

Barton College's Jamina Morris was named Field Athlete of the Year. Morris would also tally 28 points, with her's coming from first-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump, and a second-place finish in the 60m hurdles.

Greg Thiel of Southern Wesleyan University was tabbed the Coach of the Year after leading the Warriors to a runner-up finish in their first Conference Carolinas Indoor Track & Field Championship appearance.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athleticconference made up of 12 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount OliveNorth Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College is currently completing the NCAA DII Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
