Mount Olive's Surum and Zimmerman Named Conference Carolinas Baseball Players of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive's Ricky Surum was tabbed the Conference Carolinas Baseball Player of the Week, while teammate Bruce Zimmerman was tabbed the Conference Carolinas Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played Jan. 30 - Feb. 5, the Conference announced today.
Surum, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., six hits and a .667 average at the plate to lead the Trojans to a three-game sweep of regionally ranked Lander University. He collected five extra-base hits (3 2B, 1 3B and 1 HR) and drove in four RBI. Surum's best performance was in the series finale as he went-4-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, two runs scored and four RBI.
A senior from Woodstock, Md., Zimmerman was on fire in a 3-0 shutout of regionally ranked Lander University. He struck out 12 batters in six innings of work while only allowing two hits and giving up four walks.
