Mount Olive's Kafi and Barton's Cunningham Named Conference Carolinas Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive's Malak Kafi and Barton College's Janae Cunningham have been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for meets held Apr. 10-16, the Conference announced today.

Kafi, a freshman from High Point, N.C., posted two top-five finishes for the Trojans at the Phoenix Invitational hosted by Elon University. She would take second and break the UMO record in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.95 seconds. Kafi would wrap up her day with a fourth-place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.03.

A freshman from Hubert, N.C., Cunningham broke four school records and posted four top-10 finishes for the Bulldogs at the Phoenix Invitational hosted by Elon University. Her best finish came in the javelin throw, as she finished fourth with a distance of 30.48 meters. Cunningham would finish fifth in the shot put with a distance of 11.67 meters, sixth in the discus throw with a distance of 39.77 and eighth in the hammer throw with a distance of 38.05 meters.
