Four Conference Carolinas Student-Athletes Garner All-America Honors at 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Conference Carolinas had 10 student-athletes compete at the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. from May 25-27. Four of the 10 competitors earned All-America honors in at least one of their events.
Headling the group is University of Mount Olive's Leah Hanle, who finish with a pair of All-America honors. She would finish third in the 5000 meter run with a time of 16:27.24 and fifth in 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:09.42. Hanle's steeplechase time was the fastest by a freshman in NCAA Division II history and the ninth fastest ever.
Also representing Mount Olive was Adam Craig, who picked up two All-America honors in both the 5000 meter run and 10,000 meter run. He would finish 10th in the 10,000 with a time of 30:07.31, while finishing 11th in the 5000 with a time of 14:30.73. The Trojans' Jonathan Dahlke competed in the 3000 meter steeplechase, but was unable to finish the race after suffering an injury.
Limestone College's Marshawn Scott picked up All-America honors in the 110 meter hurdles after posting a time of 13.92 in the final. Joshua Simmons and Naim Fareed posted 11th and 17th-place finishes, respectively, in the 400 meter hurdles. The Saints' 4x400 relay team just missed the finals, finishing in ninth-place with a time of 3:12.12.
Barton College's Larry Russell Jr. earned All-America honors in the long jump by placing third in the event with a school-record jump of 7.72 meters.
King University's Vincent Okot finished 10th in the triple jump with a leap of 15.49 meters, which broke his own school record.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 12 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College is currently completing the NCAA Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
