Mount Olive's Styles Selected to 2018 WBCA 'So You Want To Be A Coach' Class

ATLANTA, GA. – The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced the class for the 16th annual “So You Want To Be A Coach” program on Monday (Jan. 22) afternoon. Each member will participate in the three-day workshop with speakers provided by the Alliance on March 28-30 in conjunction with the WBCA Convention in Columbus, Ohio.

Ni'Ya Styles of University of Mount Olive will represent Conference Carolinas at this year's workshop. Styles, a two-time All-Conference Carolinas selection, is a senior from Nashville, N.C. and currently ranks fourth in the league with a 17.1 points per game average. She became UMO's all-time leading scorer earlier this season.

The objectives of the “So” program are to increase the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women’s basketball, increase the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduce female basketball players to coaches and administrators, and raise awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women’s basketball.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 11 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College is currently completing the NCAA Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
