King's West Tabbed USBWA National Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS, MO. (USBWA)Kori West of King University was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Women's Division II National Player of the Week for the week ending January 28. 

West earned Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors after leading the Tornado to a 3-0 record by averaging 22.7 points on 70 percent shooting, 16 rebounds, two assists and 1.7 blocks per game. 

Against Erskine, West shot 9-for-15 from the field and notched 22 points, pulled down 15 rebounds, dished four assists and swatted three shots in the 76-52 Tornado win. West's best performance would come in a 68-60 win over Barton, as she had a career night scoring 28 points and collecting 20 rebounds with two blocks. She then closed out the week with a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds in a 62-50 win over Mount Olive.

West currently averages 11.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game while shooting 56.4 percent from the field. Her shooting percentage ranks first in Conference Carolinas, while her rebounds per game rank fourth.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season. Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 11 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College is currently completing the NCAA Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
