2018 Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer All-Conference and Major Awards Announced

HIGH POINT, N.C.Lees-McRae College forward Pol Vassart was voted the 2018 Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year by Conference coaches. Chowan University's Toby Sims was tabbed the Conference's Defensive Player of the Year, while teammate Harry Ardron was named Freshman of the Year. In addition, Limestone College's Eric Alsop was named the Coach of the Year, the Conference announced today.

New to the Conference Carolinas postseason award offering is the Elite 23 Award. The Elite 23 Award is modeled after the NCAA's Elite 90 Award, which is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumlative GPA at their respective championship site. The inaugural winner for men's soccer is King University's Sam Mburu.

Vassart, a senior from Tournon-sur-Rhone, France, led the conference in points (39) and goals (15), while finishing second in the league in assists (9). In conference play, he totaled seven goals and five assists for 19 points, which was the highest total of any individual within Conference Carolinas. 

Sims, a sophomore from Tuxford, England, garners the program's first-ever Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Year honors. He tallied six points on two goals and two assists, while helping lead the Hawks to seven shutouts throughout the season and four in league play.

Ardron, a native of Blackpool, England, earned the program's first-ever Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year honors. The forward notched 11 points on the year on five goals and one assist.

Coach Alsop has been named Coach of the Year for the second time in his career after guiding the Saints to a second straight Conference Carolinas regular season championship and the fifth league title in program history. The Blue and Gold leads the conference with seven shutouts on the season, while ranking second in goals allowed average, and is fourth in the league in scoring with 1.93 goals per game.

Mburu, a senior information technology major from London, England, comes to the Men's Soccer Championship with a cumulative 3.982 GPA. The forward posted two points on one goal during the regular season.

Joining Vassart up top is Barton College teammates Ruben Mancio and Pol Monells, while King's Carlos Saavedra rounds out the first team forwards. Manning the midfield on first team is Kristian Moore-Cowell of Limestone, Trevin Myers of Chowan and Agustin Ortiz of Lees-McRae.

Accompanying Sims on the defensive unit is a trio of Limestone Saints in goalie Mirko Ronchi and defenders Nacho Reigada and Dominic Boland.
