Mount Olive's Smith Named Conference Carolinas Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive's Tai Smith has been named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held Dec. 6 - Dec. 10 , the Conference announced today.
Smith, a junior from Glendale, Ariz., had a record-breaking weekend at the GVSU Holiday Open in Allendale, Michigan. Competing in the 5000 meter run, Smith crossed the finish line with a time of 14:24.16, setting a new school record and picking up an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the event. Smith made a comeback to surpass all of the Queens runners who beat him last week and finished right behind the runner who placed 9th at the NCAA DII Cross Country Championships. Smith's eleventh-place finish ranks him first in the conference in the 5000m run.
