Mount Olive Captures Conference Carolinas Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship; Individual Awards and All-Conference Announced

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The 2017-18 Conference Carolinas Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship was held on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. University of Mount Olive would notch its fifth straight indoor title with a team score of 236 points.

In addition to the team title, Mount Olive's Leah Hanle would be named the 2017-18 Track Athlete of the Year. Hanle totaled 22 points at the indoor championship after winning the mile run, finishing runner-up in the 5000m run and fifth in the 3000m run.

Mount Olive's Taylor Moncrief was named Field Athlete of the Year. Moncrief would tally 24 points, with her's coming from a first-place finish in the high jump, third-place finishes in the long and triple jump, and a seventh-place finish in the 60m hurdles.

UMO's Celine Ritter would capture Freshman of the Year honors after posting 24 points. She would take gold in the 800m run, silver in the mile run and a bronze in the 3000m run.

Matt van Lierop of Mount Olive was tabbed the Coach of the Year after leading the Trojans to their fifth consecutive Conference Carolinas Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athleticconference made up of 11 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount OliveNorth Greenville University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College is currently completing the NCAA DII Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
