King's Brokering and Limestone's Smith Named Conference Carolinas Softball Players of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – King University's Kay Brokering was named the Conference Carolinas Softball Player of the Week, while Limestone College's Courtney Smith was tabbed the Conference Carolinas Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played Mar. 12-18, the Conference announced today.
Brokering, a junior from Shelbyville, N.C., led the Tornado to a 4-2 record last week with her hot hitting at the plate. She collected a total of seven hits, including four doubles and one homer, for a .412 average with eight RBI.
This is the second POTW honor for King this season and Brokering's first. Brokering currently leads Conference Carolinas with 27 RBI, while ranking third in home runs (5), fourth in doubles (7) and seventh in batting average (.375).
A senior from Bluffton, S.C., Smith tossed 18 innings of action and went a perfect 3-0 for the Saints last week. She gave up 11 hits and issued nine walks, giving up three runs with only one being earned. Smith's performances earned her a .39 ERA to go along with 14 strikeouts on the week.
This marks the second POTW honor for both Smith and Limestone this season. Smith ranks first in Conference Carolinas in wins (11) and saves (1), while ranking second in shutouts (4), strikeouts (76) and ERA (.91).
