Southern Wesleyan's Lewis and Mount Olive's Lockett Named Conference Carolinas Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Southern Wesleyan University's Jami Lewis and University of Mount Olive's Candise Lockett have been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for meets held March 12-18, the Conference announced today.
Lewis, a sophomore from Stafford, V.A., posted the top time of any Division II athlete in the field in the 400 meter hurdles this past weekend at the 49er Classic. Her time of 1:03.58, a new personal best, was good for 9th place at the meet and leads both the conference and the Southeast Region. Lewis also competed as part of the 4x100 meter relay team that ran 47.23 seconds to take 6th place and claim the top performance of any Division II team in that field.
A freshman from the United Kingdom, Lockett earned the first provisional qualifying mark of her career this past weekend at the Braves Track Classic. Her event-winning mark of 51.70 meters (169'7") in the hammer throw set a new school record and is currently the eighth-best throw in Division II, as well as leading the conference and region.
