Limestone's Parnell and Smith Named Conference Carolinas Softball Players of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Limestone College's Ashley Parnell was named the Conference Carolinas Softball Player of the Week, while teammate Courtney Smith was tabbed the Conference Carolinas Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played Mar. 19-25, the Conference announced today.
A freshman from Starr, S.C., Parnell collected five hits, two of which were doubles, and batted 1.000 on the week to lead Limestone to a sweep of Conference Carolinas foe Southern Wesleyan. She would notch one RBI and score four runs on the week.
Parnell currently leads Conference Carolinas with a .444 batting average while rankings fourth in the league with 36 hits. This Parnell's first POTW honor of the season.
Smith, a senior from Bluffton, S.C., picked up her 12th win of the season with a spotless outing against Southern Wesleyan. She threw 4 1/3 innings of no-hit ball and finished with 10 strikeouts in Limestone's 9-1 win.
Smith ranks first in Conference Carolinas in wins (12) and ERA (.87), while ranking second in shutouts (4) and saves (1) and third in strikeouts (86). This marks the second straight POTW honor for Smith and her third overall this season.
