Mount Olive duo of Hanle and Beckford Named Conference Carolinas Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive duo of Leah Hanle and Brittany Beckford have been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for meets held March 19-25, the Conference announced today.

Hanle, a sophomore from Lichtenstein, Germany, had a record-breaking day at University of Mount Olive's home meet, the Trojan Challenge, recording wins in both the 3000 meter steeplechase and the 800 meter run on her way to two new facility records.  In the steeplechase, Hanle ran an impressive 10:29.25, only 10 seconds off the NCAA automatic qualifying mark and the best time in all of Division II so far this season.  She completed her winning 800 meter run in a time of 2:18.34, which sits atop the conference standings.

Beckford, a freshman for the Trojans, added to the record count at the Trojan Challenge.  Her new collegiate personal best high jump mark of 1.63 meters (5' 4.25") broke both the school and facility records in that event.  That jump is currently the highest in the conference by 4 inches and the third-best mark in the region.  In addition, Beckford posted two other top-5 finishes at the meet, recording a third place finish in the 400 meter dash with a personal best 58.81 seconds, which is currently third in the conference standings, as well as a 5th place finish in the 200 meter dash.
