Mount Olive's Smith and Teeple Named Conference Carolinas Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive duo of Tai Smith and Zach Teeple have been named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for meets held April 2 - 8, the Conference announced today.
Smith, a sophomore from Glendale, Ariz., recorded a provisional qualifying mark in the 10,000 meter run his first time out in that event this season. His time of 29:59.89, less than a minute away from the automatic qualifying mark, was good for second place at the Colonial Relays, and is currently the eighth-fastest time in Division II. Smith also currently leads both the conference and region in that event.
A freshman for the Trojans, Teeple won the University section of the javelin throw at the Colonial Relays this past weekend with a new collegiate personal best. His throw of 54.09 meters moved him into second both on the current Conference Carolinas performance list and in the University of Mount Olive record book. That mark is currently third in the Southeast Region.
