2018 Conference Carolinas Men's Golf Championship Major Awards and Recap

SNOW HILL, N.C. – North Greenville University took home the 2018 Conference Carolinas Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday (Apr. 17) afternoon. Southern Wesleyan University's Eric Shea earned 2018 Conference Carolinas Men's Golf medalist honors after shooting a three-round total of 215.

The Crusaders earned their first-ever men's golf championship by shooting a three-round team score of 883 (+19). The victory earns NGU an automatic to NCAA Regionals.

Shea was the leader after day one of the championship, as he shot a 66 in round one. Round two would see him shoot a 76, before charging back to win medalist honors by one stroke with a 73 in round three.

The 2018 Conference Carolinas Men's Golf major and all-conference awards were also announced during the final day of action. Headling the list was Nick Stafford of Belmont Abbey College, who took home Conference Carolinas Golfer of the Year for the second straight year. The Barton College duo of Bryson Boyette and Ashley Leonard were named Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively.

Boyette, hailing from Wilson, N.C., won one tournament, finished runner-up in another and recorded two other top-15 finishes while playing in the No. 1 spot for the Bulldogs as a freshman. He helped the Bulldogs win the South/Southeast Regional Preview and place among the top-three of four other tournaments during the regular season.

Coach Leonard directed the Bulldogs to top-three finishes in five tournaments during the 2017-18 regular-season, including a major victory in the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional Preview. Barton’s fifth-year head coach helped guide her players to eight top-five individual finishes and 12 collective top-10s.

Joining Stafford on the first team was Evan Gfeller of North Greenville University and the Limestone College trio of Brett Krekorian, Will Woodard and Zack Pritchett.
