Limestone's Fareed and Barton's Russell Named Conference Carolinas Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C.Limestone College's Naim Fareed and Barton College's Larry Russell have been named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for meets held April 16 - 22, the conference announced today.

A senior for the Saints, Fareed raced his way to not one, not two, but three provisional qualifying marks this past weekend at the USC Open.  He opened his day with a new career-best mark in the 110 meter hurdles, and his time of 14.18 seconds is currently 14th on the NCAA Division II descending-order list.  Fareed then came back to run the second-fastest time of his career in the 400 meter hurdles, 52.37 seconds, a provisional qualifying mark that would sit 11th on the descending-order list if he didn't already own the eighth-fastest time from his performance at the Florida Relays several weeks ago.  Fareed closed out his day as part of the meet-winning 4x400 meter relay team whose time of 3:11.84 currently sits 9th on the Division II list, but will move up to 6th once duplicate teams are removed.  All three of those marks currently sit atop both the conference and the region.

Russell, a junior from Sicklerville, N.J., leapt his way to the eighth-best long jump mark in Division II so far this season at the VSU Trojan Invite.  Russell's mark of 7.44 meters (24'5") was good for the win and a provisional qualifying mark, as well as leading both the conference and region.  Russell also notched two other top-5 finishes at the meet, recording a new personal best mark of 15.26 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles and a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (14.16 meters, 46'5.5").
