Mount Olive Claims Conference Carolinas Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship; Individual Awards and All-Conference Announced
HIGH POINT, N.C. – The 2018 Conference Carolinas Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship was held April 27-28, 2018 on the campus of Southern Wesleyan University in Central, S.C. University of Mount Olive would notch the outdoor title with a team score of 240.5 points.
In addition to the team title, Mount Olive's Malak Kafi was named the 2018 Track Athlete of the Year. She totaled 21 points at the outdoor championship after winning the 400m Hurdles, finishing runner-up in the 100m Hurdles and sixth in the long jump.
Mount Olive's Taylor Moncrief was named Field Athlete of the Year. She would tally 26 points with them coming from three second-place finishes in the high jump, long jump and triple jump, while also finishing seventh in the 100m hurdles.
UMO's Celine Ritter captured Freshman of the Year honors after posting 20 points. She would take gold in both the 800m and 1500m runs.
Matt van Lierop of Mount Olive was tabbed the Coach of the Year after leading the Trojans to the Conference Carolinas Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship.

Conference Carolinas is a NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 11 teams from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Converse College, Emmanuel College, Erskine College, King University, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, University of Mount Olive, North Greenville University, and Southern Wesleyan University. Emmanuel College is currently completing the NCAA DII Membership Process and will be fully competing in league championships in the near future.
