Sobers Wins National Championship; Emmanuel Finishes 16th at 2019 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships

HIGH POINT, N.C.Conference Carolinas had three student-athletes and one relay team compete at the 2019 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI from Mar. 13-16.

Emmanuel College was the only Conference Carolinas team represented at the Championships with Joao Santos and Alex Sobers each qualifying in two individual events, while Thiago Rosa qualified in one event. Emmanuel's 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams also competed.

As a team, Emmanuel finished 16th overall in the team standings with 92.5 points. Each participant earned All-America honors in at least one event, including relays.

Sobers was the biggest winner of the championships for Emmanuel, with the junior winning the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:21.09. The win secured Emmanuel its first-ever NCAA Division II National Championship in its first year of postseason eligibility.
