Mount Olive's Smith and Teeple Named Conference Carolinas Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive's duo Tai Smith and Zach Teeple have been named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for meets held March 12-18, the Conference announced today.
Smith, a junior from Glendail, Ariz., climbed to the top of the charts in the steeplechase this past weekend at the Shamrock Invitational. With an impressive time of 9:13.27, Smith set an NCAA provisional qualifier in the steeplechase to secure a first place finish in the event. This time was fast enough for Smith to move into fourth all-time in the UMO record books. Smith is Conference Carolina's top runner in the steeplechase by 28 seconds and holds the fifth fastest in Division II.
Teeple, entering his senior outdoor season, placed himself on the Division II qualifying list in the javelin with a mark of 60.72 meters (199' 2") at the Shamrock Invitational. This mark moved Teeple into second place all-time in the UMO record books.
