2019 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse All-Conference and Major Awards Announced
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Limestone College's Courtney Lafler was voted the 2019 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year. Notching a major award three-peat was University of Mount Olive, as the Trojans captured the Defensive Player and Freshman of the Year awards for the third straight season. Taking home Defensive Player of the Year was Sadie Michael, while teammate Meaghan Michaud was named the Freshman of the Year. In addition, Limestone's Scott Tucker was tabbed Coach of the Year, the Conference announced today.
New to the Conference Carolinas postseason award offering is the Elite 23 Award. The Elite 23 Award is modeled after the NCAA's Elite 90 Award, which is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at their respective championship site. The inaugural winner for women's lacrosse is Limestone's Alyssa Voccia.
Lafler, a senior from Penn Yan, N.Y., has led the Limestone offense with 89 goals and 23 assists for 112 points. She not only broke the Limestone single-season record for total goals, she also broke the Limestone all-time career record and is the first women’s lacrosse player in Limestone’s history to record over 200 goals..
Michael, a senior from Sherwood Park, Ontario, leads UMO with 46 caused turnovers while she has broken the program record for caused turnovers (109). Michael also leads Mount Olive with 63 ground balls and sitting fifth in draw controls.
Michaud, a freshman from Derry, N.H.., is second on the team in goals (40) and points (54) on the season. Michaud has tallied 18 ground balls, three draw controls and four caused turnovers while taking 89 shots, 71 coming on goal for a 79.8 SOG %.
Coach Tucker led the Saints to a current 16-2 overall record and a perfect 10-0 league mark to earn the program’s 15th Conference Carolinas Regular Season title. Personally, he has been named Coach of the Year nine consecutive times and 13 overall.
Voccia, a senior computer system information technology, web development and database major from Greenacres, Fla., sports a cumulative 3.97 GPA. Voccia tallied 78 draw controls, 44 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers on the season.
