Celebrating 90 Years of Leading the Way! Conference Carolinas' 90th Anniversary is on December 6
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The 90
th anniversary of the formation of Conference Carolinas is on Dec. 6, 2020.
To celebrate the 90
th anniversary, Conference Carolinas has many special things planned over the course of the next couple of months that highlight what has made the league so special for 90 years.
Conference Carolinas’ official storyteller Bob Rose will incorporate unique features through his “Body, Mind, and Soul” series into the 90
th anniversary celebration.
The 90
th anniversary celebration will officially start next week with Rose’s feature on Mount Olive’s run to the 2008 national championship in baseball.
The “Body, Mind, and Soul” features celebrating 90 years of success will be done in addition to highlighting important moments in Conference Carolinas history over the last 90 years on social media and much more.
“The first 90 years of Conference Carolinas is truly second-to-none,” Commissioner Chris Colvin said. “It’s important that we celebrate what has allowed Conference Carolinas to help lead the way over the years while also detailing why the present and future is so bright as our student-athletes continue to be nationally recognized for their efforts in the classroom, in the community and at the highest levels of NCAA competition.”
Conference Carolinas was originally formed as an athletic association "for the greater advantage of the small colleges in North Carolina."
The official name given back then was the North State Intercollegiate Conference, but it was known informally as the Old North State Conference.
The birthplace on Dec. 6, 1930 was the Washington Duke Hotel in Durham, N.C. and the seven charter and founding members were Appalachian State, Atlantic Christian (now Barton College), Catawba, Guilford, Elon, High Point and Lenoir-Rhyne.
