GREENVILLE, S.C. – Close to 150 individuals participated in the inaugural Conference Carolinas Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Virtual 5K Run/Walk.

The Virtual 5K Run/Walk was held Oct. 27-29 and was done in conjunction with the Third Annual Diversity and Inclusion Social Media Campaign sponsored by the NCAA.

“I would first like to commend our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for their efforts to make this as successful as it was in year one,” Commissioner Chris Colvin said. “It was really special to see all of those participating on social media and to also hear from so many more about how they had completed their 5K to support the Conference Carolinas SAAC.”

The “Together We Race: NCAA Diversity and Inclusion Virtual 5K Run/Walk” sponsored by the Conference Carolinas SAAC allowed all participants to complete the event on either Tuesday, Oct. 27, Wednesday, Oct. 28 or Thursday, Oct. 29.

The event was also utilized as a fundraiser by the SAAC to raise funds to enhance the diversity training programming for the spring of 2021 Conference Carolinas SAAC Meeting.

Donations are still welcome and they will be used exclusively for the diversity and inclusion training during the Spring Conference Carolinas SAAC Meeting. To donate, please visit ConferenceCarolinas.com/DiversityTraining.

The well over 100 individuals who participated in the inaugural event also received a commemorative bib. Many of the individuals who participated showed their completion of the “Together We Race: NCAA Diversity and Inclusion Virtual 5K Run/Walk” by using the Hashtag #TogetherWeRace on social media to go along with a race completion photo.

“Assistant Commissioner Jill Weston and Conference Officer Nate Jones did a tremendous job this year working with our SAAC officers to implement this new event,” Colvin said. “We look forward to having this be a yearly showcase for Conference Carolinas and our SAAC. I know I am already looking forward to year two.”
