JJ Sherman of North Greenville Named Southeast Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year
NEW ORLEANS - Conference Carolinas Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year JJ Sherman has also been chosen by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as the Southeast Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.
The North Greenville product is currently ranked nationally in the 60 meters and the 200 meters. He is also part of the nationally-ranked 4x400 relay team that is currently ranked tops in the Southeast Region. Sherman is the second from Conference Carolinas this year to earn a major award from the USTFCCCA with Mount Olive's Leah Hanle also named the Southeast Regional Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year.
A native of Pawleys Island, S.C., Sherman is one of three from North Greenville that will compete this week at the 2020 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships that will be held March 13-14 in Birmingham, Ala. at the Birmingham CrossPlex. North Greenville's Jackson Junkins (400m) and Tevin Richardson (200m) will be joining Sherman (60m and 200m) at nationals. In addition, Limestone’s William Gray will compete in the 60 meter hurdles.
In women’s indoor track & field, Southern Wesleyan will send two to the NCAA Indoor Championships in Mycherie Onquzurukie (long jump) and Jami Wright (400m and 200m).
