Conference Carolinas Releases Women’s Basketball Award Winners

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Conference Carolinas released its 2019-20 women’s basketball awards at a banquet ahead of the semifinals of the 2020 Conference Carolinas Women’s Basketball Championship at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. 

The 2019-20 all-conference teams were chosen by the league’s head coaches. 

Barton’s Shanika Peterkin earned both the Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards. The junior from Virginia Beach, Va. has claimed the Defensive Player of the Award in all three years of her illustrious career at Barton. Peterkin averaged 18.3 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game. 

Erskine freshman guard Osha Makerson was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year. A native of Forest City, N.C., Makerson averaged 12.0 points, 3.8 assists and 3.2 rebounds over the course of the 2019-20 season. 

Belmont Abbey head coach Jason Williams garnered Coach of the Year honors after leading the Crusaders to the regular season title and a top-10 national ranking. 

A junior from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Maria Kuhlman captured the Elite 23 Award for women’s basketball. Kuhlman boasts a 3.99 grade-point average.
