Conference Carolinas Men’s Basketball Unveils Men’s Basketball Awards

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The 2019-20 Conference Carolinas men’s basketball all-conference teams and award winners were released ahead of the semifinals of the 2020 Conference Carolinas Men’s Basketball Championship at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. 

The 2019-20 all-conference teams were chosen by the league’s head coaches. 

King’s Jordan Floyd was chosen as the Conference Carolinas Men’s Basketball Player for the second time in his career. He also earned the prestigious honor in the 2017-18 season. The senior guard from Stone Mountain, Ga. is leading all of NCAA Division II with 31.6 points per game.

Chowan standout freshman BJ McLaurin was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year. The forward from Fayetteville, N.C. led Conference Carolinas with 11.4 boards per game. He averaged a double-double on the 2019-20 season with McLaurin also pouring in 16.5 points per game. 

Belmont Abbey junior guard Romeao Ferguson was named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Year. Ferguson was a stat stuffer and a true threat in all areas this year for Belmont Abbey. The junior guard from Burlington, N.C. native averaged 17.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. He was also in the top 15 in the league in assists, steals, blocks, field goal percentage and minutes played. Ferguson led Conference Carolinas in assists at 5.0 per game. 

Conference Carolinas men’s basketball had two Coach of the Years winners with King’s George Pitts and his protégé Nick Pasqua sharing the honors. In his final season at the helm of King, Pitts guided the Tornado to the regular season title. Pasqua mentored Southern Wesleyan to their best Conference Carolinas season and a top four finish in the regular season. Both have their teams ranked among the top 10 currently in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Rankings. 

Emmanuel senior guard Marcus Wilson garnered the Elite 23 Award for men’s basketball. Wilson owns an impressive 3.917 grade-point average.
