Oscar Fiorentino and Angelos Mandilaris of Barton Chosen as Finalists for Off the Block National Awards
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Two Barton student-athletes are up for national awards given by Off the Block.
Off the Block recently unveiled the finalists for all 11 of the NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball national awards. The award winners will be announced on Wednesday as part of Off the Block’s College Men’s Volleyball National Awards Presentation.
Barton senior setter Oscar Fiorentino is a finalist for the Lloy Ball Award. The award is given to the nation’s best setter in NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball during the regular season. The annual award is named after the former U.S. Olympic gold medalist and IPFW All-American setter Lloy Ball.
A native of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Fiorentino had a nation-best 10.78 assists per game average and guided the Barton offense to the third-best attack percentage in the nation at .353. The Bulldogs hit at least .400 in five conference matches as they finished Conference Carolinas play undefeated in a shortened season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Conference Carolinas Co-Offensive Player of the Year Angelos Mandilaris of Barton is a finalist for multiple national awards.
He is a finalist for the Bryan Ivie Award given to the nation’s best opposite in NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball during the regular season. The annual award is named after the former U.S. Olympian and USC All-American opposite Bryan Ivie. Mandilaris is also a finalist for the Division II National Player of the Year award that is given to the nation’s best player on a NCAA Division II men’s volleyball team during the regular season.
In addition, Mandilaris is a finalist for the Nicolas Szerszen Award that is presented to the best non-U.S. born player in NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball during the regular season. The annual award is named after the former Ohio State All-American outside attacker.
A senior right side from Chalkida, Greece, Mandilaris ended his prolific career having won Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year three times. Mandilaris was third in the nation this past season with a 4.43 kills per game average. He was also in the country’s top 15 with a career-best .412 attack percentage. The opposite had double-digit kills in all but two matches, including a match-high 25 kills in an upset sweep against Loyola.
The national awards given by Off the Block are selected by a nationwide voting committee of college men’s volleyball coaches and media members.
