Kayla Vaughan of Belmont Abbey Named ITA Southeast Region Rookie of the Year
TEMPE, Ariz. – Kayla Vaughan of Belmont Abbey has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Region Rookie of the Year.
The ITA unveiled the regional awards on Tuesday, May 19, 2020.
Despite the shortened season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ITA wanted to recognize the hard work on and off the court from deserving student-athletes. The Division II Awards include: Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship, ITA Rookie of the Year, ITA Player to Watch, ITA Most Improved Senior, ITA Senior Player of the Year and ITA Community Service Award.
A freshman from Jacksonville, Fla., Vaughan was twice named Conference Carolinas Women’s Tennis Player of the Week this past season (Feb. 19 and March 4). She picked up three wins during the season at No. 1 singles.
